The Infinity, San Francisco, CA

The Infinity is a luxury residential complex with 4 post-tensioned concrete structures ranging in height from 8 to 41 stories. The 1-million-square-foot development includes 654 condominium units, a fitness center, swimming pool, courtyard, lounge, retail space and a 5-level subterranean parking garage. During the excavation of 190,000 cubic yards of soil, workers uncovered a 19th century whaling ship. Webcor overcame the delays associated with the ship’s removal and an unusually wet winter by achieving a 4-day, floor-to-floor structural concrete pouring cycle. Using an innovative combination of concrete forming systems, Webcor poured the 36-story tower, 5-levels of parking and 7,000 cubic yard mat slab in 356 days and within 1 week of the original schedule. Using lessons learned in phase I of the project, Webcor streamlined many aspects of the construction for the 41-story tower of phase II. Innovations in the life safety testing process dramatically reduced the construction schedule and allowed the project to be delivered 3 months ahead of schedule. Despite a noise-related work-day restriction of 7am to 8pm, the team achieved a 3-day per floor structural concrete cycle—beating the speed of the Phase I tower by an entire day. Millennium Tower, San Francisco, CA

At 645 feet, Millennium Tower is the tallest structural concrete building in San Francisco. The 1.2 million-square-foot, luxury residential high-rise consists of a 60-story tower, an 11-story amenity building and 5 levels of subterranean parking. Webcor brought significant value to the project by eliminating the subterranean parking area under the tower portion of the building and then sequencing the excavation into two phases. This enabled the tower erection—the longest item in the schedule—to begin earlier, saving the owner 8 months on the schedule and $6 million in construction costs. The building’s size and location required a massive foundation system with 10-foot-thick pile caps and a 3-foot-thick core wall. The site also required a highly unique, internal cross bracing system to eliminate off-site movements and support an existing building on the south side. Awards & Recognition:
